WHAT CAN I EXPECT FOR LODGING?
Our basecamp is a well appointed, 6,000 sq/ft lodge in the La Sal mountains, located on 50 private acres. Rooms are shared and double occupancy. Each traveler will have their own bed and couples traveling together can opt for a shared bed in private room (subject to availability). Each room has a private bathroom and the lodge provides plenty of space for relaxing.
WHAT KIND OF SHAPE DO I NEED TO BE IN?
Nearly all programming on our adventure is optional. That said, you will enjoy the trip a lot more if you are able to tag along for most activities. Our trips are not designed for hard core trail junkies, or endurance athletes. We do recommend that you are able to handle a multi hour hike at an average pace (with plenty of snacks and water breaks in between). For trail running, all paces are welcome! Ideally you run a few times a week, feel comfortable with distances between three and six miles and can hang with a 10 (ish) minute / mile pace. We keep a guide at the front and one in the rear so that no runner or hiker is left behind. The runs we have scheduled on our trip range from 3.5 miles to 6 miles with plenty of opportunities to stop, catch your breath and take in the sights. WHAT ABOUT INTERNET AND PHONE RECEPTION?
Our trips are intentionally designed to help you unplug. Most of the trip will take place in remote areas where cell service is limited or nonexistent. We cannot guarantee you will be able to connect at any given time but we do pass through areas with cell reception about once a day. The lodge also has limited wifi, so connecting with family back at home should not be an issue.
WHAT IF I’M NOT IN THE MOOD TO GO ON ONE OF THE RUNS OR HIKES?
Not a problem! We want you to enjoy yourself and all activities are optional with the exception of when were are moving to another area as a group.
HOW ARE THE RUNNING CONDITIONS?
The altitude in the Moab area is above 4000', which is considered high-altitude. The trails are mixed and varied: there will be hills, flat areas and some technical terrain. Because of this we like to take a leisurely pace (somewhere around a 10 minute mile) and enjoy the scenery. Prior trail running experience is not necessary but trail running shoes are recommended.
HOW INTENSE ARE THE HIKES?
Many of the hikes are short distances, 4 miles or less. Altitude can add to the intensity. Conditions permitting we may include one longer multi-hour hike.
WILL THERE BE SHOWERS?
Yes. Each room in the lodge has a private bathroom.
CAN I BRING MY COMPUTER?
If you must, but our goal here is to unplug. Probably best to leave it at home and not worry about it.
IF LIFE GETS IN THE WAY OR SOMETHING COMES UP, CAN I CANCEL?
Cancellations within 7-days of booking will receive a full-refund, minus a 2.9% credit card processing fee.
After the 7-day window, deposits are non-refundable.
Cancellations after the 7-day window and prior to August 1st will receive a 50% refund*
30-days or less from the start of the trip, there are No Refunds.
*Applicable only if your balance has been paid in full and on time. If the balance has not been paid and you have to cancel, we will retain the full deposit.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PACK?
The temperature in Moab changes quickly. Average high and low for this time of year is 84h/49l. Temps can be higher in the lower areas and much cooler in the higher altitudes making layers really important. We prefer trail running shoes over hiking boots along with a comfortable pair of sneakers or sandals for hanging out at night. A couple layerable running / hiking outfits, socks for each day, a bathing suit and a midweight jacket should just about have you covered. A hydration pack or large water bottle is required to participate in activites and we prefer that you are able to pair down your packed goods into a 60L duffle bag and a day-pack. If you need to check a bag, you’ve over-packed. Once your trip is confirmed we send along a comprehensive packing list to help you get ready.
SHOULD I TIP MY GUIDES?
While tips are greatly appreciated, they are not expected. If you choose to tip on a retreat lead by our co-founders (JT and Ryan), your tip will be donated to The Conservation Alliance's Public Lands Defense Fund.
CAN I ARRIVE EARLY OR LEAVE LATE?
Get in touch and let us know what you’re thinking. We’ll do our best to help accommodate special requests or help you plan your stay in the event that you want to add on extra nights. To insure that there are no hiccups due to flight delays, we recommend flying out a day early and staying at a nearby hotel.
WHAT ABOUT SAFETY?
Safety and your enjoyment on this adventure is our primary concern. Our guides are WFA (wilderness first aid) certified, we keep a watchful eye on the weather and conditions and talk to the local Park Rangers to insure all activities are as safe as possible. We also carry 2-way radios and / or GPS distress beacons to alert 911 in case of an emergency. We ask that our fellow travelers follow our lead of responsible enjoyment of our wilderness areas and don’t put themselves in dangerous situations.
