A high alpine adventure like no other…

Starting and finishing in Cortina d’Ampezzo, this retreat will have you speed-hiking and trail running along the Alta Via 1—one of the most famous and breathtaking High Routes of the Italian Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Dolomites are one of the most majestic mountain ranges in the world, each day on the trail is somehow more epic than the last.

Our format on this trip is point-to-point, traveling by foot, and lodging in mountain Rifugios. Accessible almost exclusively by foot, Rifuigi are charming alpine “huts” set high in the mountains. Don’t le the word “hut” fool you, the Dolomite rifugi are considered by many the best in the Alps and the ones we’ve selected for this trip are all privately owned (much nicer than the alpine club Rifugi) and feature exceptional local cuisine. Our itinerary will showcase trails and peaks with vistas of over 80% of the Dolomite Mountains.

Traversing mountain passes and running at altitude is considered challenging. To keep this run-centric trip inclusive, we’ll keep the pace slow and comfortable. We hike the inclines, take it easy through the technical terrain, and pause for breaks throughout the day.

On this adventure, we’ll run, hike, relax and explore in the evergreen woods, alpine meadows and lunar landscapes of the Dolomites limestone peaks. Join us!

DAY 1: Thursday 7/16 • Ciao Highline!

Arrive in Cortina d’Ampezzo on your own, or opt-in for private transfer.

DAY 2: Friday 7/17 • Val di Braies, Croda del becco, & croda rossa massif

Starting at one fo the most beautiful alpine lakes in Italy, we embark on a warm-up run before starting our climb of Croda del Becco. After a some big climbs, we wind down with a moderate downhill run to our Refugio for the night.

DAY 3: Saturday 7/18 • Altopiano di Fanes 

Today is a half-day with less milage to reboot after the first day’s climb. A casual (but steep) downhill run is followed by some climbs. Most of this day is spent hiking with strides mixed into to freshen our legs. Lunch at the highest (in elevation) brewery in Europe is followed by a nice chunk of free-time to relax, explore local trails, or squeeze in a run on your own.

DAY 4: Sunday 7/19 • Cime di Fanis & Lagazuoi Massif 

Today is an epic day of peaks and mountain passes. A warm up run leads to our first climb, followed by a technical downhill where we enjoy a picnic (and a dip) at an alpine lake. After lunch, we ascend Lagazoui to the highest Rifuigo in the Dolomites. The mountain is riddled with WWI caves and tunnels and our home for the night provides for 360-degree views of sunset and the surrounding mountains.

DAY 5: Monday 7/20 • Cinque Torri

We run down from Lagazoui and down into the valley. On the other side we hike some climbs through the woods and stop by Cingue Torri at one of our favorite Rifugios for lunch. Post lunch, we explore Cinque Torri then enter into a lush-green sub-alpine forest as we make our way to the night’s Rifugio.

DAY 6: Tuesday 7/21 • Pelmo & Civetta Massifs 

Today is mostly downhill with a few gradual climbs mixed in. Vistas of the valleys close-in and become lush forests. Views of Civetta Massifs and some nice non-technical terrain are highlighted.

DAY 7: Wednesday 7/22 • Civetta and Moiazza to Passo Duran 

Most of this day we are losing elevation. We’ll enjoy a casual run downhill, followed by some decent climbs. A nice downhill stretch of running brings us to our stop for lunch which is then followed by more downhills on our way to meet our private transfer back to Cortina d’Ampezzo. After checking in to our hotel and relaxing for a bit, we’ll celebrate with a group dinner in town.

DAY 8: Thursday 7/23 • Cortina d’ampezzo & Departures

Activities: Private transfer to Venice Airport (VCE)


2 nights lodging in Cortina d’Ampezzo at a 3-star hotel
with double rooms, twin rooms & single rooms pending availability.
5 nights in Rifuigios will be a mix of dormitory style rooms and private rooms.


Breakfasts consist of: coffee, tea, breads, muffins, jams, cakes, cheese, cured meats, yogurt, etc.
Dinners at Rifugios spotlight local fare and are comprised of 3-courses
Group dinners in Cortina will be hosted family style at local Trattorias.
